Bank Robber Arrested
Roshon Mitchell, wanted in connection with a string of bank robberies that took place from September 25, 2009 through October 9, 2009, was arrested by the Philadelphia Police Department last night shortly after allegedly committing his seventh bank robbery of the Wachovia Bank branch located at 75 East City Avenue in Lower Merion Township, PA at approximately 5:30 PM. Mitchell was taken into custody by the Philadelphia Police Department at approximately 7:30 PM in the area of 50th Street and Lancaster Avenue in Philadelphia following investigation by the FBI, the Philadelphia Police Department, and the Lower Merion Township Police Department.
Following the robbery of the Wachovia yesterday evening, information was developed that Mitchell was in a motel in the 4400 block of City Avenue. A search of the hotel did not locate Mitchell, however he was located a short time later walking in West Philadelphia by a uniformed Philadelphia Police Department patrol unit and taken into custody on the Federal warrant which had been issued in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on Wednesday, October 7, 2009.
Mitchell was located based in part on tips from the public as a result of the media coverage of his robberies and status as a fugitive.
It should be noted that criminal defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty, and a Criminal Complaint is an accusation of an alleged crime or crimes.
