Arrest of Billy Ray Barker, the “Broad Street Bandit”

Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Janice K. Fedarcyk, FBI Philadelphia, announces the arrest of Billy Ray Barker for bank robbery. Barker, age 40, was arrested this morning, August 23, 2009, in the 2800 Block of North 12th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Barker, also known as the “Broad Street Bandit,” was taken into custody without incident by the Philadelphia Court Warrant Unit along with FBI agents assigned to the Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force. 

Barker is alleged to be responsible for the 8/5/2009 robbery of the Wachovia Bank located at 601 W. Erie Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A federal complaint and warrant was issued for Barker following this bank robbery. 

Barker is also believed to be a suspect in three other bank robberies. Those robberies include the PNC Bank, 3244 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 8/13/2009; the Wachovia Bank, 2843 N. Broad St, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 8/13/2009; and the Bank of America, 1650 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 8/20/2009.
