Director’s Community Leadership Award
Presented to James J. Binns

Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Janice K. Fedarcyk, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Philadelphia Division, is pleased to announce that Philadelphia attorney James J. (“Jimmy”) Binns will be presented with the FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award on Friday, November 14, 2008.

Since 1990, the FBI has publicly recognized and honored the achievements of individuals and organizations for their continued efforts in combating crime, terrorism, drugs and violence in America with the Community Leadership Award. Each year, one individual or organization in each of the FBI's 56 field offices is selected whose achievements in the terrorism, crime, drug, gang, and/or violence prevention and education field have had exemplary impact on the community.

Mr. Binns, a prominent Philadelphia attorney and civic leader, makes substantial contributions to a variety of charitable institutions, and created and supports the Hero Cop Plaque Program, the Hero Firefighter Plaque Program, and the Hero Thrill Show. These programs commemorate the heroic lives of 278 Philadelphia Police Officers and 285 Philadelphia Firefighters who have died in the line of duty by placing plaques at the sites within the community in which they died and by raising money to pay college tuition costs for the children of the fallen heroes. To date, 130 plaques have been placed in and around Philadelphia. Mr. Binns has also donated 39 motorcycles, 25 bicycles, and 100 shotguns to police departments in the Philadelphia area to support and enhance crime-fighting capabilities.

A press conference regarding this matter will be held at the FBI office, 600 Arch Street, 8th Floor, on Friday, November 14, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. FBI SAC Fedarcyk will present the award to Mr. Binns, and will address the media. Audio and video recording will be permitted.
