Bank Robber Indicted

Martin C. Carlson, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced today that a Hanover, Pennsylvania man has been charged and agreed to plead guilty to a felony information charging six counts of bank robberies and three counts of Hobbs Act robbery throughout Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Mark Shane Herrick, age 32, has agreed to plead guilty to robbing the following banks and stealing almost $22,000:

  • June 6, 2008 - Fulton Bank, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania;
  • June 7, 2008 - M&T Bank, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania;
  • June 13, 2008 - PNC Bank, Lower Macungie, Pennsylvania;
  • June 16, 2008 - PNC Bank, Hazleton, Pennsylvania;
  • June 19, 2008 - PNC Bank, Baltimore, Maryland; and
  • June 21, 2008 - PA State Bank, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

During each robbery, Herrick possessed a tire iron/crow bar.

Herrick faces a total of up to 210 months’ imprisonment and fines totaling up to $2,250,000.

This case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation; United States Marshals Service; Pennsylvania State Police; Pennsylvania State Parole; and police departments from Baltimore County, Lower Paxton Township, Middlesex Township, Swatara Township, Susquehanna Township, and Upper Merion Township and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daryl F. Bloom.
