Lancaster Man Sentenced to Prison for Passport Fraud
PHILADELPHIA—Jeffrey Bruteyn, 38, of Lancaster, PA, was sentenced today to 13 months in prison for making a false statement in a passport application, announced United States Attorney Laurie Magid. Bruteyn was convicted at trial on March, 11, 2009. While under federal investigation in Texas, Bruteyn surrendered his passport to authorities. On October 26, 2007, Bruteyn applied for a new passport, at the passport office in Philadelphia, claiming that he had lost his old one.
The case was investigated by the U.S. State Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mary Kay Costello.
