Philadelphia Man Charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana

United States Attorney Laurie Magid and Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham today announced the filing of a seven-count indictment charging that on April 1, 2009, Larry Bass, Jr., possessed marijuana and Alprazolam with intent to distribute, and possessed seven firearms and dozens of rounds of ammunition in furtherance of this drug trafficking crime, According to the indictment, Bass possessed, among the seven firearms, a loaded H&K assault rifle, a Sig Sauer assault rifle, loaded with 5.56mm NATO rounds, and a Mossberg 12 gauge pump-action shotgun.

If convicted the defendant faces a statutory maximum sentence of life imprisonment, including a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of five years, a $2,500,000 fine, five years mandatory minimum up to lifetime supervised release, and $700 special assessment.

This case was investigated by the Philadelphia Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a federal initiative designed to identify and prosecute firearms offenders in federal court, where the defendant is likely to receive a substantial sentence upon conviction. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Joseph Whitehead, Jr.
