Philadelphia Man Charged with Multiple Armed Robberies

Acting United States Attorney Laurie Magid and Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham, announced today the filing of an 11-count Information charging defendant TYREE AIMES with committing numerous gun-point robberies of fast food restaurants and food stores on February 27 and March 1, 2007. The dates and locations of the robberies are as follows:

This investigation and prosecution was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a joint initiative by the United States Attorney’s Office, each of the nine District Attorney's Offices in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute dangerous firearms offenders in federal court, where the defendants are likely to receive a substantial sentence upon conviction. As a part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, the United States Attorney’s Office, FBI, ATF, Philadelphia Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies have established the Hobbs Act Robbery Task Force to investigate and prosecute organized gangs and groups committing commercial armed robberies in this district.

If convicted of all counts, AIMES faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, with a mandatory 125 year sentence consecutive to all other sentences, a $2,750,000 fine, five years supervised release and a $1100 special assessment.

This case has been investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Philadelphia Police Department, the Darby Police Department, the Upper Darby Police Department, the Clifton Heights Police Department, and other state and local law enforcement agencies. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Arlene D. Fisk.
