Martin C. Carlson, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, announced today that United States District Judge William J. Nealon sentenced Kenyetta Brown, age 28, of Scranton, Pennsylvania, to 46 months imprisonment for his involvement in the sale of crack cocaine in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.
On May 6, 2008, Brown pleaded guilty to the charge of distribution of crack cocaine. The conviction followed an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Scranton Police Department. During the course of the investigation, law enforcement agents utilized a cooperating witness to purchase crack cocaine from Brown for $100 on the corner of Willow Street and Pittston Avenue, in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
In sentencing Brown, Judge Nealon emphasized that Brown’s crime was particularly troublesome in light of the fact that Brown was on parole for a previous conviction for possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine.
United States Attorney Carlson noted that parole has been abolished, and Brown will be required to serve at least 85% of his sentence, assuming he receives full time off for good behavior while incarcerated.
In addition to the 46-month sentence of imprisonment, Judge Nealon ordered that Brown be under the supervision of a United States Probation Officer for three years following his incarceration.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Gurganus.
